Kathie’s Hybrid Socks

April 28, 2008

I have finished the sock I was working on at the last meeting.  It is a toe-up sock.  I used the “Easy Toe” from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch, pattern stitch is a K3, P2 rib, the “Short Row Heel” and the “Crochet Cast-Off”  from Crazy Toes & Heels by Mary Ann Beattie.  The yarn is Tofutsies in aqua and the needles are size 0 (40″ long) from Knit Picks.  I’m using the “Magic Loop” method for the first time and love it.  This short row heel method doesn’t require wrapped stitches, leaves no holes, is simpler to knit and has become my favorite.  The “Crochet Cast-Off” gives the top of the sock the elasticity that it needs to prevent cutting off circulation.  You may have noticed that the top of the sock is a little wavy but that disappears the minute the sock is put on.

I received my order from Knit Picks.  Yeah, new sock yarn!  I’ve started the “Jaywalker Socks” (per Missy’s request) using Knit Picks “Felici” in Mixed Berries.  Will bring them to the next meeting.  The pattern calls for size 1 needles but, since I knit loosely, that usually means going down 2 sizes for me so using size 00.  Hoping to find that size in a circular so I can “Magic Loop” them.

Welcome!
