June 27 & 28 found several of our members happily demonstrating knitting at the Waterford Historical Society’s “Log Cabin Days”. The president of the Society (and one of our members) Sally Strait encouraged us to ‘come-participate!” and we did. The weather was lovely, the location (under a nice shady pavilion and right near the river for cool breezes) helped make the days a great experience. All who participated agreed that we will definitely be back next year! There was a large skein of yarn and needles for knitting on a ‘community scarf’ which, when finished, will be donated to the Historical Society for their Fall raffle. Several young people came by to help add stitches as well as our members and June, the wool spinner who was located in our
pavilion.

Also: Dawn joined us Sunday to help knit (didn’t get her photo!)

One of our members, Sally, headed up a project for the “Mother Bear Project” which asked for crocheted or knit bears for children affected by HIV/AIDS in emerging nations.

Several of our members got to work and produced 8 loveable, cuddly bears for this project. VERY NICE WORK, LADIES!

Our lovely ladies from the group got together and knit/crocheted beautiful, colorful newborn baby hats for “Stitches from the Heart”; this project was headed up by our own MISSY! Thank you all, ladies-you did a wonderful job and many babies will be warm because of your great work.

While perusing the web I discovered this site:

Just ran into this site and thought I’d share: it has tons of crochet patterns and other crafts as well. Enjoy!

At our last meeting I was knitting The Squidge Cloth (Missy was knitting it at the meeting before). A very simple dishcloth pattern. I also spoke about Knotions on-line magazine. They are still having major computer issues, which much be as frustrating for them as for those of us wanting to view it. Hopefully they will be resolved soon as the Winter ‘08 issue was launched on November 3rd. Most of the time, though, the Fall ‘08 issue is available as well as the Winter ‘08 Preview.
As promised, the link to the pattern for the Berry Baby Hat. I’ve changed the pattern a bit because my hats didn’t have that standup “swirl” the designer achieved. So here go my changes, so far: When placing the marker, move it over 1 more stitch to the left (for a total of 3 stitches). Instead of K2 tog: SSK OR sl 1, k 1, psso. Now it will “swirl”, just in the opposite direction. I think I’ll play with it a little more to see if I can make it “swirl” the same as the original.
I’ve used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Baby as well as Vanna’s Choice. My color choices, in case you were wondering: Berrylicious & Sweet Pea, Bluebell & Sweet Pea, Terracotta & Sweet Pea, Duckie & Sweet Pea, and Fern & Kelly Green.

This paper is very useful if you want to chart out your fair isle or instarsia patterns to see how they look before you knit them.
